If you manage your own company, you are probably accustomed to all of the unanticipated problems that enterprises deal with. It feels like no matter how meticulously one prepares, there will always be surprise expenditures, last minute disasters, and unforeseen goofs that need to be handled – mainly when you are just getting up and running. In my own company, I have had to put up with water leakage problems, substandard electrical jobs not appropriate for our store needs, a difficult location, competition from regional chains, and excessive heating bills. Yet, The most unexpected problem I came up against, was sound.

It never came into our minds acoustical ceiling tiles before I open for business. To tell the truth, less than a year ago I never heard off what an acoustic ceiling panel was. This, certainly, converted into a big up-turn in sales.

One of the things I am paranoid about is having my files go missing. I have had hard disks crunch in the past and since then I have been attentive about backing up my data I  want and need to keep. It helps that backing up has gotten easier with large hard drives and faster CD burners. Lately I have been searching for an remote backup solution for one of my customers. We tried a “roll your own” method. It had a tendency to simply drop the connection before the backup was finished.

The next thing naturally was to Google “cloud backup” and I started to check out the various services that I discovered. I tried several and decided on OPENRSM CloudBackup. The neat thing is that it has high end features, works on Windows, MAC, and Linux, and has a scalable pricing system.  The standard offering is 50GB of data storage for only $4.00/month.  OPENRSM CloudBackup lets you have as many computers as you want and only charges extra if go use over 50GB of storage.And since each Gig is only pennies, that’s pretty sweet.

A lot of the online backup services were similar, the two things that make OPENRSM CloudBackup better was support for multiple systems and network drive. In my office I have my Windows machine and a Linux box. Using OPENRSM CloudBackup it can also able to backup all of those files remotely as well. Now I have a local backup of my files in case of hard drive failure on my desktop, and a remote online backup in case there is some other kind of mishap here at my house. The initial session can take a while but after that it’s very quick.

You bought a new leather chair for the office and the unthinkable happens, employees drop ink on them. Leather chairs are rather pricey to purchase so if you or an employee were to stain them it would be devastating. You should not place too many chemicals on the fabrics as you could end up ruining the material. If the stains are still there you should consider buying a new chair.

In short, T. Harv Eker is a millionaire, but more than that he is an inspiration to hundreds of thousands of people – and counting.  With that said I didn’t think he had anything new to teach me when I went to check out his Millionaire Mind Intensive seminar, but I couldn’t have been more wrong.

I purchased the Sealy Posturepedic Patronage Plush at Rooms to Go. The mattress felt fine in the store. It’s soft but not extremely soft. It had a price of $677 including box spring – a good price for a 12″ Level 4 Posturepedic and a mattress topepr.

I fall asleep easily on it. First night, with no effort. However, I wake up with pain in the mornings. I am a stomach sleeper. The mattress is too soft for me so my hips sink in causing my back to arch. This is not something I was hoping for and I really can’t use to this mattress. I hope it would suit me well, since I was trying it for almost half an hour at the store. The salesman didn’t mind and I was chatting a bit with him. That’s what you do when you have few days off. It really did me good.

Back to the Sealy Posturepedic. The good guys at Rooms to Go are honoring their comfort exchange honorably with no hassle. It could be that they saw how good guy I was. I’m just guessing. But they won’t give me second comfort exchange though. So I am exchanging the mattress for furniture and buying me second mattress elsewhere. Now I guess I will turn to Sealy’s or even Macy’s. Although I don’t love them. It’s personal 

Conclusion: This Sealy mattress is too soft for me. It might be fine for others, but I find it too soft. As well as the mattress topper that came with it.

When we go to a store many of us pay for our goods by cash if we don’t have our credit cards with us. This is the 2 dollar bill and because it is hardly ever used or seen there are many stories that have developed around this bill. For this reason when people see a 2 dollar bill they will either regard it as being a fake money bill or they will decide that it is so rare that they need to possess this bill.

Even though you will not see the 2 dollar bill all that much, there are some of these 2 dollar bills in circulation. In many cases the 2 dollar bill has become a collector’s item for the people who come across it. As this is the case the amount of 2 dollar bills that you can find are consider as being used by various businesses is very small. Instead you will find that various other items have been placed in the sections where the 2 dollar bill needs to go. There is another problem that you may run into when you try to use a 2 dollar bill.

There are still others who may feel that you are spending fake money. Therefore if you do come across a 2 dollar bill you might want to hang on to it until you can exchange it at the bank where they will not look at you funnily. While you use these dollar bills to pay for the services and goods that you want, it is very rarely that you will spend some time looking at various dollar bills.

This 50 dollar bill or “Grant” as it is also called has been given a face lift to deal with the many counterfeiters who like to use the real versions to see how they can make their own version of a 50 dollar bill. The picture of President Grant is placed a little off center. Just off the lower right side of President Grant’s portrait there is a silver blue star that has been added to the 50 dollar bill.

These new designs have been added so that the people who like to print out fake money will have a hard time trying to duplicate an american eagle coin. These types of new design features will allow the various security people and store vendors see if they are be given a genuine 50 dollar bill or if they have a reproduction on their hands. Today you will be able to find the 50 dollar bill as being 6.1 inches, smaller than what it was in 1861.

Communication lies at the heart of any business. There is a simple thing that can be done to improve any businesses communications and yet few businesses ever pay any attention to it. As a draughtsman I quickly had to learn that you must assume the person who was looking at your drawing knew nothing. If it is true that experts are people who have made lots of mistakes then I am a super expert.

You should never write as though you were having a conversation. When you have a conversation it usually means that part of the message is assumed. You should be conversational (e.g. write using the kind of words you might use if you were having a conversation) but not as though you were having a conversation. Writing is a tool of communication; it is not simply a way of conveying a conversation.

A little while ago I was involved in a project where we had to redevelop part of a web site. To compound the problem both parts were tending to be referred to by the same name. This continued for about two weeks. This is not an uncommon problem in business.

The real trick is to write in such a way that you communicate your message without overdoing the detail. There is nothing more annoying than having to read a simple message with a lot of other words in the way. Many entrepreneurs and leaders will admit that some information needs to be available on a need to know basis to prevent that information from slipping into the hands of the media, competition or enemy. Of course, on the flip side is the dirty word of secrets and many folks who are not privy to secrets feel disrespected because they are not trusted and therefore, do not give their 100% at work.

Is it true that not everyone can be trusted with information? Well, information is power and if you power-up those who cannot control their integrity levels or choose not to, then in a way giving them the information makes you an accessory to their actions. For instance, many folks have a lot of knowledge, experience, observations, insight and original thoughts.

But, like water it does flow, information, like living organisms want to be free. Sometimes, even the folks who have the information do not even trust themselves with the information they have because it’s too easy to make a mistake. Communication is about the transfer of information, and it is important for all companies, and organizations to do communication audits to insure the right information is being passed on.

There is little doubt that the business world locally, nationally and globally has been forever changed by the information age. The future of communication will show us more of the same, just as “The Road Ahead” predicted over a decade ago. But, what will these new technologies be that increase business communication speed of transmission and bandwidth be like? No it will not be infinite by any means, but compared to what we have now it will be.

Soon, we will have super small devices that operate by voice and eventually by thought. Just think what this will mean for your business endeavors. Well, think about it for a second, you can collaborate on designs. This may increase the effective of cell phone type communication by a factor of three.
